My husband and I just moved to the area and experienced our first leak as new homeowners. Tyler came out and assessed the leak promptly. He was very honest with us while evaluating the damage and thankfully it looks like it is a very minor issue. Tyler is sending a plumber for reassurance. Very happy with the customer service we received and will definitely reach out to First State Restoration again for any future work needed!
Hands down the best restoration company in Delaware, from Wilmington to Selbyville.
Tyler & his crew were so amazing!! Highly recommend!!!
I recently had the pleasure of working with First State Restoration on a new real estate investment property, and I could not be more impressed. They helped me remove mold from the ceilings, and the entire process was seamless from start to finish. The owner, Tyler, went above and beyond, guiding me through every step with professionalism and care. His expertise and dedication made what could have been a stressful situation completely worry-free, especially something I went into not knowing much about... His attention to detail, the team's efficiency, and their respect for my property were outstanding. I wholeheartedly recommend First State Restoration and Tyler for anyone looking for reliable, top-notch restoration services.
Edit: Tyler, I have physical proof that I did not sign that contract (as do you), and that I do not own a “full sized pig” who lives in our sunroom. This is completely fabricated and defamatory We hired First state restoration to restore our home after a kitchen fire. We were very impressed at first, but as soon as we moved in, the experience turned into a nightmare. While they provided "extra" renovations, the quality, in our opinion, was subpar to say the least. There were massive gaps in flooring, paint splatters everywhere, scratches on our new cabinets, mold and mouse feces in boxes, visible black spots (presumably soot/ash) on my baby’s toys, clothing that smelled of smoke, which they tried to justify by saying was likely cigarette odor from their workers smoking near our items. On our "move-in ready" date, the floors were filthy. Our feet were black after only a few minutes in the house. None of our furniture was built, our closets and cabinets were not reinstalled… Based on my research into industry standards for packback services, the packback did not meet those expectation at all. My baby didn’t even have a crib to sleep in for a week after we moved home. Most disturbingly, many of our belongings were unaccounted for. Specifically, my bras and underwear were missing even though the rest of our clothing was returned. The owner, shalefe, invalidated my concerns about this and told my husband “some people just can’t be reassured.” when I asked for reassurance about the missing items. Both owners, Tyler and Shalefe, were extremely dismissive of my complaints, and did a half-hearted job at fixing the issues. I sent 46 photos as proof of my complaints, and they both admitted that there was no quality control. Yet they still defend their employees. I felt that they questioned my own integrity, despite the evidence, and made excuses. Multiple people made comments about women being “particular”, “nit-picky” etc. They made many comments about their budget and how they can’t afford to keep sending people down, as if it was our fault they had to come back… After they came to “fix everything”, they had my husband sign a completion contract without my consent while I was in another room tending to my child. I am the homeowner/insurance policy holder (pre-marital asset) and they know this, yet they still had my husband sign a contract behind my back. They then tried to pressure my husband into paying him the remaining balance via personal check before final repairs were completed. During our final phone call, I found Shalefe’s tone and language to be hostile and aggressive. He made several comments that I perceived as an attempt to undermine my authority as the homeowner due to my gender and age. The tone of the conversation felt very intimidating and escalated to a point where I felt unsafe. He went on a long rant about how he’s a 41 year old grown man from Philly and he “doesn’t play”. He told me if I’d like to say something to put my husband back on the phone and he can talk to him. He then proceeded to read a screenshot of a text that I had sent to Tyler that day, asking a question about our cabinet drawers. I felt as though they were making fun of me for asking a question, and then Shalefe insulted my intelligence by telling my husband that I lack common sense and saying “This is the type of … I ignore”. Lastly, he brought up a personal tragedy of Tyler’s and asked us if we “even care”. This was an unprofessional and unfair emotional burden to put on a paying customer. Frankly, it was none of our business and certainly not an excuse for the lack of professionalism. He told us we need to “be thankful for what did get done” in regards to our complaints. That’s simply not how this type of transaction works…Because of Shalefe’s hostile behavior, the repairs remain unfinished. I don’t feel safe having these people in my home, so we feel that we have no choice but to complete them ourselves and move on from this experience. This company lacks integrity, skill, and basic respect for homeowners, especially women.
About First State
First State is a Middletown, Delaware restoration company focused on water damage restoration for local homes and properties. Based at 651 N Broad St, Suite 201, the company responds to the kinds of emergencies that can upend daily life, helping property owners begin recovery as quickly as possible. First State positions itself as a local resource for neighbors facing flooded basements, burst pipes, storm damage, or other water intrusion that threatens building materials and personal belongings.
Water damage restoration typically begins with a careful assessment of the affected areas, and First State’s approach reflects that sequence. The team performs immediate mitigation to limit ongoing damage, removes standing water, and implements drying and dehumidification to reduce moisture in walls, floors, and structural cavities. Because excess moisture can lead to mold growth and compromised materials, remediation and sanitation steps are part of the restoration process to help return spaces to a safer, more stable condition. For homeowners this often means a coordinated series of actions, from moisture mapping and content cleaning to temporary board-ups and odor control, carried out with an eye toward protecting what can be saved.

Clients and neighbors have repeatedly highlighted the company’s communication and responsiveness. Reviewers frequently note that staff arrive promptly, explain the necessary steps in plain language, and remain present throughout the mitigation and restoration process. Many customers describe the experience as less stressful because the team takes time to walk homeowners through each stage, documents conditions, and keeps occupants informed as work progresses. Several accounts also emphasize compassionate service during difficult circumstances such as fire or major leaks, and praise for clear, steady guidance during the recovery process.
First State’s reputation in online feedback reflects consistent high marks. The company holds a 4.9 Google rating based on 57 reviews, a measure that prospective clients often consult when choosing a local restoration provider. That rating reflects a pattern in customer sentiment: fast response, thorough work, and attentive communication.
